Not really. And I do this while I use it, it creates a much better suction. I never knew to flip the lid back! That makes more sense. I bet it would work better that way. Thank you! Does your son still get enough to eat even with using the haaka pump on the one side he’s not nursing on? When you switch sides, do you also use the haaka pump on the side he’s already nursed on? He only ever nurses from one side at a time, but I have not noticed a lack of supply then or later when he does nurse on that side.

I will try that while she’s nursing and see how she does with it.

I got 2.5oz from the right side and just under 1..5oz on the left. DD seems to prefer the right side a bit more than the left.

Okay, won’t lie, I think I need calmed down but I’m not able to do it myself. With DD I had an oversupply pumping 8oz total in like 3 minutes I was trying to avoid that... now I regret it😬 but... so now DS is 4 weeks on Monday I just starting pumping last night. So up until last night I just did the hand pump for the first 2 weeks for relief and was filling bottles fast but then they started to level out. Now I’m using my electric pump and the side he last nursed on I’ll get .5-1oz out and the other said 3 oz out. So out of the norm from when I had my daughter and it has me panicking about my supply/returning and pumping at work. Now I’m convinced and spiraling that I need to up my supply 😬 which I have never had to worry about before.... having lots of regrets avoiding the over supply this go around but I know the over supply last time got to be tough.

nmom, that sounds like the perfect amount to me (~4 oz). Is that replacing a nursing session? I get 8 to 11 oz per pump (total both sides) but I am providing for twins! So that would be a great pump for one baby. ETA my twins usually take in about 4 oz each per feed. So it seems like you are producing enough to replace feeds, is it just that you want to have a stash before returning to work?

I agree with Eames that getting about 4oz is normal nmom for skipping a feeding and pumping. Yesterday, I was only able to pump 3oz total (skipped nursing), and I kinda freaked out a bit as I too am going to be pumping at work. Are you drinking enough water? I drank a bit more water today, and I pumped 3.5oz this evening.

Eames orangehibiscus I nursed him then went to the pump and pumped both sides. The 3 oz was from the side he didn’t nurse from. If that makes sense? Thanks ladies. I feel bad panicking about this, but I had such an oversupply with DD I don’t have a realistic comparison.

I feel bad panicking about this, but I had such an oversupply with DD I don’t have a realistic comparison. I wouldn't panic. 3oz is a great output, and a pretty typical amount for them to eat in a session so that's great! Also, remember that when you're back to work or away from baby, you're pumping to replace, so you don't *need* extra. You just need as much as he's eating. It also makes sense that the amount you're pumping started to lessen/level out, as your body is getting used to making how much baby needs and not an excess. I do get the worry though, even knowing all that sometimes I still can't get out of my head either. Up your water intake, I've heard coconut water is good for supply? With E I made "lactation cookies" too, I think they increased my supply but I also just liked an excuse to eat cookies so....😂.

nmom, if you nursed then still got 3 oz that's great! Maybe even a slight over supply but not as much as you had last time. I have a juuuust a slight oversupply with the twins, I stick a 4 or 5 oz bag in the freezer every other day or so. I'm happy knowing I can maybe start to wean from the pump before a year! We are almost exclusively pumping now, it is just so much easier for me because I can feed both while I pump. I'm learning to release it and they are still getting BM. I do get the worry though, there were some nights in the beginning that we were getting just enough to replace what they were eating, even pour it from the bottle being pumped to top them off. I started mothers milk tea, oatmeal every day, lots of water, etc. All that stuff helped, but what I think has helped the most is that I pump every single time they eat and letting it run for a few minutes extra sometimes. I was really worried about providing for 2 but I've been lucky! Still taking it a day at a time and setting mini goals, first is the end of the mat leave, then 6 months when we introduce solids, then a year!

I woke up with a clogged duct any tips? Oh no! Massage the spot while nursing/pumping. Make sure you massage towards the nipple. You can also put a warm wet washcloth on the clog too. If nursing, make sure baby’s nose or chin is pointed toward the clog. I hope you can get it unclogged!

I woke up with a clogged duct any tips? Ditto what orangehibiscus said. Also massaging in a warm shower while using a hand pump works for me. I've also heard running a comb over the spot and a vibrator works! Keep an eye on it, if you start having flu like symptoms, call your ob in case of mastitis. Usually they work themselves out for me with some extra attention.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I’m in need of a comfortable pumping bra. I’m going back to work 3 weeks from tomorrow (😢), and I’m going to be pumping at work. I have 1 pumping bra right now, but it is tight and I can barely stand to wear it while I pump much less all day at work.
I’ve heard of a pumping bra that hooks to a nursing bra. Does anyone have one or have experience with one? Love it or hate it? TIA

I wore a regular nursing bra and then just put the simple wishes one over it when I needed to pump. You could really wear any bra and just unhook and pull it up out of the way and strap on the pumping bra when you need it.

I live 1.5 hours from a Target, and I’m not planning on going to that city before I go back to work. I’ll have to order online. I have 2 Target GCs, so I’ll see what they have. Thanks!

bex15 I use coconut oil to massage while in the shower. Or use the special boob heat packs on it before nursing. I just had one that took a few days to get rid of but I think it’s gone finally. They are really painful for me.

Mine seems to be doing that but everything I read online makes me think it should just come out during a feeding so I’ve been confused.

bex15 I've had a couple of them so far and nursing through and massage has helped. I started taking sunflower lecithin and that is supposed to help prevent them. My LC said it's like an oil that doesnt mix with the breastmilk, therefore keeps the ducts lubed and doesnt allow them to clog.

i always have the worst clogs in my dud boob about 8 or 9 months in. It happens when i eat too much high fat foods. i did not recognize this until the 2nd kid but it happened both times.

I’m worried about my supply. DD has been nursing about 5 minutes per side before pulling off and crying and refusing to relatch. Has anyone else been through this? She’s also been extra fussy, which is unusual for her.

She’s also been extra fussy, which is unusual for her. I’ve been there, and it sucks! For us, I wasn’t positioning DD correctly while nursing, and she was taking in a lot of extra air. This made her gassy and extra fussy. She would latch and nurse and then start screaming. I would try to burp her, but she wouldn’t burp, she would just scream more. I would try to get her relatched, and my boob was literally muffling her screaming, but she wouldn’t relatch. It was awful! We saw a LC a week ago who helped show me proper positioning. Since then, DD has only screamed like that once during feeding, and she is much easier to burp typically. She hasn’t been nearly as gassy, and she hasn’t needed gas drops except once.

jacks how are wet diapers? I think she has plenty. Probably 5 really wet diapers a day. She’s been better today, so I’m thinking it must have been her stomach. I had some cheese on Friday and clearly she is not over the dairy intolerance yet The pasta wasn’t even worth it. Womp.

So now DD is basically always only latching onto my nipple. I relatch her, and she will suck a few times and seemingly spit out the rest except for the nipple.
I think she learned this because when I’m engorged I can’t sandwich down my breast, and she can only latch onto my nipples. They’re bruised and sore. I will relatch her several times, even after I’m not engorged anymore, but her latch doesn’t really change. Any ideas how to fix this?
