lemondrop we use Medela bottles with the slow flow nipples. Are you pace feeding? With S, when I give him a bottle, I let him suck 10-15 times then take the bottle away and burp him. Then repeat. It helps him to not take in too much at once. We are, which is fun since he screams bloody murder when you make him stop inhaling. I bought some Avent bottles. Hopefully those work!

lemondrop we had good luck with comotomo bottles. Also sometimes you can get slower flow nipples than what comes standard with the bottles.

Does a clogged duct have to also have red skin over top? When I Google clogged duct, it says the skin over top of where the clog is is red. I don’t have that, but I feel like I have a clog on each side. I’ve tried to massage it out both when she’s nursing and when she’s not. They feel firm and very mildly tender. Does that sound like clogged ducts? I had one last week and visually you couldn't see anything but it was tender. Between massaging it, feeding with the nose pointed towards the clog, dangle feeding and some extra pumping it got cleared. In the end it was DS nursing that cleared it. I have very large breasts so I think sometimes it just doesn't show up visually. If you start to develop flu like symptoms make sure to call your doctor.

orangehibiscus you can try massaging the clog with a vibrator as well. lemondrop, I'd guess pace feeding is going to make more difference than any bottle type. I'd stick to a level 1 nipple and pace feed. Preemie flow might just be frustratingly too slow?

We’re still having some latch issues, and my nipples burn after feeding her and sometimes during. I made an appt today for a week from Monday with a LC. I will have to drive 1.5 hours one way to go see her, but I’m hopeful she can help us!

Obviously you should still see the LC to correct her latch but the cream always helps a ton when my nipples are sore.

I can’t figure out where I put the third kind😂😂. I use nipple cream after most feedings, and it does help some.

Vent ahead...
Today I’m feeling like I solely exist to be a dairy to feed my baby. I love my baby, but I’m feeling frustrated by this today. I don’t want to stop nursing, and I don’t want to supplement with formula (nothing against that for others). Does anyone else feel like this? Does it get better?

orangehibiscus I know the feeling. I hate how I always have to consider feeding times. Need to run to the store? Better make sure I can be back before she’s hungry again. I think it does get a lot easier as they get older and more efficient. For me though, the pumping was way worse than nursing. But it truly becomes a blip on the radar. It’s funny how even at 4 weeks old, the first 2 weeks of nursing 24/7 and no sleep are already slowly fading from my memory. Or maybe I’m just sleep deprived and can no longer form memories.

I've definitely felt like this at times. What helps me is pumping and having a stash so that I can leave whenever I need or want to. Yesterday I had to go to the DMV, and even though that wasn't a fun trip (lol) it felt so good to know I could leave the house for 2 hours and MH would be fine with him. I need that freedom to say, hey I've had a rough day I'm going to Target/the salon/to get a cookie/WHATEVER. I haaaaate pumping, but I just pump once a day after he goes to bed and it's enough.

orangehibiscus Also adding that it gets easier when they’re a bit older and are fun to play with, instead of them only using you for your tasty milk. At this age, they don’t give a ton of feedback. I remember DD1 wanting to hold my hand and would stare lovingly in my eyes while she nursed when she was a little older. Meanwhile DD2 is all business and squeals in protest when I take too long to get situated.

Thanks jacks and pambee! It’s so nice to know I’m not alone in feeling like this. I do have a small freezer stash, but I feel guilty using it because DD will need it when she does to daycare. I pump sometimes after nursing, but only if H is home. I read somewhere that you have to pump 30-60 minutes after nursing so you can make enough milk for the next feeding. I don’t get in that time frame unless H is there. I get an ounce per pumping session, so it takes 4 times of pumping to get 4oz of milk in a bag. Although she nursed 5oz yesterday (did a weighted feed with the LC), so now I’ll have to put 5oz per bag. ETA: That’s the other thing...I’ve never been away from DD since she’s been born. I want to feel independent again, but I feel guilty leaving her in case she needs to eat.

orangehibiscus all I can say is, don't feel guilty using that stash. You'll be pumping while you're at work to create as much as she needs while you're away, so you really don't *need* a big stash beforehand. Also, if you can add a pumping session at the same time every day it'll help signal to your body that you need the milk then. Do you have a haaka? I used that in the beginning on whatever side he wasn't nursing from and got anywhere from .5-2oz each time. That might be an easier way for you to add a little at a time even while your H isn't home.

Also, I find that H wants to nurse more often when I'm around. If I'm not near him, he will go much longer between feeds because it's not in his face, you know? So even if you want to get out, just nurse her right before you leave and try to get back before 2/3 hours and then maybe you won't have to use up any of your stash anyways.

orangehibiscus It really does get better. They eventually space their feeds out more and when they start to have a bedtime that's another good window of opportunity to get out a bit. Also agree with those above that once they can interact with you it's nice...until they are more toddler like and you have feet in your face. I have a great picture of DD doing that to me sometime between ages 1 and 2. But the cuddles are great.

I do have a haaka pump, but even when I feel engorged, I’m only able to hand express out 0.25 if that.

My life is so different now compared to how it was before since DD is our first child. I need to find a happy medium of life. LOL at your DD with her feet in your face!

I don't actually do anything to it.

I've used the haakaa the same way as pambee. orangehibiscus, I watched a youtube video and it showed me how to apply for just suction. I always spray a lot when nursing on one side though. Also I wanted to say don't feel bad about getting out and about! I used to go right after DD nursed and would get maybe an hour to go to the store or whatever. It's so freeing. Now with these guys I've been gone for up to 12 hours. PDQ but this week my firm interviewed for a really cool project (poof) and I really wanted to be there for it so my H took a personal day. I pumped in the car both ways and at lunch. Luckily I have a pretty good freezer stash going though. It was really weird to be away from them all day but felt good for me to breathe for a bit! I don't go back to work until July 1.

And I do this while I use it, it creates a much better suction. Eta- I have a "stud" and "dud" side when it comes to pumping, and it rarely works when I try using the haaka on my "dud" side. But if he's nursing from the dud side I can usually get a bit from the "stud" side with the haaka.

And I do this while I use it, it creates a much better suction. I never knew to flip the lid back! That makes more sense. I bet it would work better that way. Thank you! Does your son still get enough to eat even with using the haaka pump on the one side he’s not nursing on? When you switch sides, do you also use the haaka pump on the side he’s already nursed on?
