I went to a Quaker school for 13 years, they are super competitive with academics and sports. Like every person from my class went to either an Ivy League or top ten school. Lol to people thinking they produce weird people or are lax. Not to discount the success of your class, but I'm curious as to how many people were in your graduating class? Did all 12 kids go to top notch schools or all 209? Look up Sidwell, Germantown Friends, George School or Moorestown and look at their notable alumni. Friends schools are known for this.

My Canadian heart just stopped at this price. Is that standard for most colleges or did you go to a fancy one? I won't tell you that my student loan balance is currently $57,000. Lucky! Mine and Mh's is much, much more. 😭😭😭

I always thought that friends schools were well known for being prep schools, old money, lots of privilege/ resources etc but I'm guessing that is specific to philly.

I grew up going to a Friends Church. I had no idea though that there were schools, definitely not one here.
I read all about this yesterday and for the first couple minutes all I could think was, "Aunt Becky?????" Didn't she learn ANYTHING all those years on Full House about being honest and a good person? I mean they did that whole episode on trying to get the twins into the best preschool.
I hope all these people get the book thrown at them.

if you've read any Sandra Boynton books with your kids, she's a Germantown Friends alumnus
I don't know why I know this.

my private liberal arts school costs more than $55K per year now and they have the nerve to do fundraisers I really feel my age when I hear tuition numbers like this. My UC undergrad was literally $4500 a year tuition

oh here in PA there is all sorts of Friends things you can do as an adult. Meeting Houses host lots of activities and you and your spouse can even marry yourselves (i.e. no ordainer person necessary) thanks to Quaker traditions! Ah yes, I have attended a self-marriage in PA. It was something. Fun fact: we got a Quaker marriage license so that we didn't need an officiant at our wedding. We broke up the traditional parts of a wedding ceremony and assigned them to a friend/family member, ending with being pronounced husband and wife by H's sister on an iPad in California (because she was 8.5 months pregnant.) It was pretty awesome. And possibly offensive to Quakers, but I hope not! They don't seem easily offended.

Quakers, Friends and Philly. It’s my life in this thread.
I went to public school. 🤷🏼♀️ I met some people from Germantown Friends in college. We were not friends (ironically). I was floored when I saw the school for the first time; it’s like a college campus.

I mean, people asked Jackaroe what athletes came from her school and how many people actually went to Ivy’s, which I kinda find disrespectful. So, you’re doing the Lord’s work, Hilarity. Let them bitches know.

Ah yes, I have attended a self-marriage in PA. It was something. I *totally* blew right past that part of gimmeaQ's reply. Long story short, an older (60 something) family member got married at Thanksgiving, at my aunt’s house in PA. No officiant, just a lot of family members, him and his fiancé. It was interesting.

What is Springside? Shady Side is in Pittsburgh and was number two. But to bring another thread into this one, you said in the motivation thread that they don't give the chicken pox vaccine where you live... I (wrongly) assumed from that post you lived in another country but do you mean Quakers don't give it? Or who? I'm not trying to be combative at all I am just having a cross-thread realization and just wondered. You don't have to say if you don't want to... I can appreciate the need for internet privacy. Ireland / the Uk

More fun facts: I interviewed for a job there. It had a fucking robotics lab for middle schoolers and a state of the art...everything. I got home from the interview and told my H that it was truly too much and that it's not fair that some kids get started out on this leg. It was a fundraising job - probably a super easy one because rich alumni keep giving super big gifts so their kids can go there. Full circle! I also thought HE mistook it for the name of Sophia's retirement community in the Golden Girls, but that was Shady Pines.
