Thanks. It was terrifying. I sat there wondering whether or not I should take him to the ER. Poison control basically said that they are very very cautious and if there were no symptoms after 4 hours, he is probably fine.

marygracerich sorry for the scare!! Children's ibuprofen is actually more diluted so you underdosed him. I'm a little mad on your behalf that poison control couldn't reassure you of that obvious fact. I have used children's before and done the mg math conversion when in a pinch!

The more I've thought about it the more I'm furious for you, marygracerich. You should call poison control back and give them a piece of your mind! Children's ibuprofen is 100 mg per 5 mL, infants' is 50 mg per 1.25 mL (or 100 mg per 2.5 mL) so you have to give double in children's what you usually would in infants'. It's simple math that my ped has said is perfectly fine multiple times and I'm so angry that you worried all night over this :-(

The reason they said you shouldn’t take him to the ER at that point is because I caught it so late. MH gave it to him at 7 and I didn’t notice until 10:30. At that point his stomach couldn’t be pumped anyway and why stress him with an ER visit when he was ok. They felt that the dosage was small enough that he should be ok. They said if he shows any symptoms at all, then take him in. ETA: children’s is more concentrated so it was like a double dose, not under dose. I think mine says 100ml per 5ml vs 50ml per ml.

Yes children's is 100 mg per 5 mL but infants is 50 per 1.25 mL. So if your dose is 1.25 mL and you use infants' you are giving 50 mg but if you give 1.25 mL of children's you are only giving 25 mg. My ped actually tells us to buy children's and use it on our infant because it's cheaper and if you forget to adjust the dose you only give half so it's a non-issue! The fact thay they even suggested you may need to pump his stomach makes me sick. What morons 🙄 ETA: Maybe it's different if you're in Canada but I didn't think you were 🤔 my memory sucks these days though haha!

All they said was to watch for symptoms. They said there is no point in going to the hospital at all. And maybe it was because I was exhausted but I read the concentrations to them and I may have said 50ml per 5ml or something like that because I think that’s what the bottle says. Maybe I am wrong. Either way he is fine. I wouldn’t put all the blame on them.

And yes there is no math harder than middle of the night math 😂 anyway glad he was okay, and now you know my ped's ibuprofen hack lol.

I made a discovery this week. I have increased the amount of regular coffee I drink by one cup with every child. I didn’t drink it at all before G. After she was born I would do one cup per day. Since the baby has been born I have been struggling to stay awake in the evenings. I added a second cup coffee around 3pm this week. I am able to function perfectly and sleep great. #TheMoreYouKnow

I used to drink soda and coffee with DS1, then went to just tea and now I only have tea on the weekends or when I wfh.

We had to do the middle of the night math with converting infants to childrens (ibuprofen also) last week and I just had to defer to DH. So hard to think straight at 3am while holding a miserable, crying baby....and when you've already been up for hours! Every if you aren't mad marygracerich, I'm going to sit with peachesncream and be mad on your behalf. At poison control, I mean.

Thanks guys! Where did the last year go!? No idea but I am loving having a toddler and a preschooler! The baby learned how to clean up his blocks himself. He loves doing it and it makes me so happy. 😂
