Has anyone who is EBFing introduced a bottle yet? Or when are you planning too? Still deciding if I want to go to work in a week. My kids have never had trouble going back and forth between bottle and breast but I havenāt given a bottle this early before. She would probably need 2 bottles at most.

I am still having trouble with LOs latch. He latches fine initially, but after 3 or 4 swallows pulls off, takes a few breaths, and relatches. He does this 10 or so times each feeding and it is killing me! I have trouble fighting him for a nice deep latch with each time. It is worse at night when of course it is also harder to see.
I feel confident in his initial latch. I know I have a strong let down and a lot of milk, so I assume he just just trying to manage the flow? Is there anything else I can do for the sake of my nipples?

Sometimes with a strong letdown, once your milk lets down and baby comes off or take him off-catch milk in a cup or towel until the flow slows then put baby back on. Iāve had this both times before, and weeks 4-6 were the trickiest with baby fussy but then they learned to manage or your milk regulates. my boobs could spray across the room š¬š.

IME baby didnāt really mind bc he couldnāt handle the fast flow at letdown anyways. it only lasted for ten seconds or so? I also remember someone telling me that babies just think itās fun to latch on and off. Iām sure it will just be a phase.

k my DD was EBF but I pumped at first to help establish my supply. So she got 1 bottle a day from the beginning. I really liked that setup because H could do one overnight feed but I was still nursing the rest of the time, and DD has no problem taking bottles. Even so, she refused to eat initially when I went back to work.

I was having a weird, painful morning with engorgement, so I finally caved and pumped. I got almost 5 oz in 7 minutes š¬ so I let DS1 feed V a bottle since he had been asking me about it since the day we got home from the hospital. He also had a bottle last Sunday because it was the SuperBowl and Mama was having some drinks. He hasnāt had any problems with taking them or with any nipple confusion.

We belong here now! Man, big girl isnāt even 3 days old and Iāve already cried a couple times about how hard nursing is. I nursed DD1 for 16mo and itās hard to forget how hard the early days were so I expected it again but ugh. A has a tongue tie (same as her big sis) that weāll likely have revised next week so that initial latch almost brings me to my knees but then it gets a little better. Sheās cluster feeding RN too so thatās fun. Anyways, as tough as it is Iām glad to be here and have this time/bond with another daughter š

Whatās everyone using to store/freeze milk in? I used bags last time and liked them but havenāt started pumping yet.
I used the haaka last night and got about half an oz to just over 1oz (x4) and just put it in an ice cube tray. I realize now I should have bought milkie trays with lids to freeze them in but I hadnāt thought about it and she came almost 2 full weeks early. Probably going to order some on amazon today, any recs?

I used to freeze milk in regular ice trays and then transfer the cubes into breastmilk storage bags. I didnāt realize they made trays with lids specifically for this!

I was just going to put milk into a bottle in the fridge until I got a few ounces and then freeze.

FFSC Iāve never pumped with a bra. I donāt really see how it would work because my nipples point down.

I have some milk from the hospital frozen in those.

I have a silicone tray with a lid designed for freezing baby food that I have been using and then putting in a ziplock.

I havenāt pumped yet. Should I be? He is doing great and my supply seems to be good. Iām afraid to do anything to rock the boat at this boat.

I havenāt pumped yet. Should I be? He is doing great and my supply seems to be good. Iām afraid to do anything to rock the boat at this boat. There is no reason you *have* to. Especially if you are not having supply issues. A lot of women choose to start pumping early to get a freezer stash going (especially if they have an early return to work), or because they have a system in place with their partner where the partner is handling one or more feedings, or a million other reasons Iām sure. With my DS1 I had to because of weight gain issues and a delay in my milk coming in. A few of our ladies on this board are pumping for similar reasons so Iāll let them speak to that. But my experience with DS1 made me a little afraid of oversupply so I have chosen not to pump in the first month with my second and third children. Now that V is a month old though, and supply and nursing are well established, I may add a morning pump so that I can start a freezer stash for date nights or even maybe a childless day or two away for DH and me later this year. With the caveat that I always avoid pumping during growth spurts.

There is no reason to pump now and in fact a lot of people would say you shouldn't and to let baby regulate your supply. I'm pumping and started right off as soon as she was born because she had respiratory distress and didn't get to be with her for 24 hours. I had to keep it up because she had a poor suck and being premature she wasn't able to transfer milk well. I've had to do this with all 3 of mine so I'm use to it. I'm trying to transition away from pumping and back to nursing now because it is way less time consuming.

Seriously.. whoever invented the haakaa pump has to be super rich. Or at least should be. This thing has been a Godsend and Iām SO glad we got one.

To add on to everyone elseās thoughts: If heās nursing well and your supply is adequate, then thereās no need to! I pumped with DS because he had a tiny latch and I had a forceful letdown, so a bit of pumping before nursing helped us tremendously. I pumped this time to try to stimulate production due to Bās issues, then to relieve engorgement, but things regulated quite well after a few days. Iām only pumping now once per day to maintain supply since heās sick and not eating all that well. If you want to start a freezer stash, I found it easiest to pump when DS1 began sleeping for longer stretches. Iād pump before going to bed at night and again in the morning, and this got a pretty decent stash going without creating oversupply.

TTMA forceful letdowns. Iām pretty sure Iāve got one according to google and Kelly mom. Things were going so well, nips were starting to feel better, but now she struggles to latch, pulls off 10-15x before being productive and chokes and gags. Iām feeling pretty down about it. Iām anxious every time we have to nurse and just broke down tonight. BFing was a struggle with DD1 and I was really hoping for a smoother experience with S.

IME the struggle with forceful letdowns doesnāt last too long. Weāve had some coughing and choking too. Have you tried sidelying or laid back nursing? is milk spraying out when baby is not latched?

TashaLa nursing is so so hard. Itās the most beautiful thing but I learned with DD1 that there are most certainly ups and downs, with a lot of downs in the beginning. Iām currently dealing with Aās TT (my nips seriously feel like theyāre gonna fall off) and a bit of an oversupply so my boobs were engorged all day yesterday and I woke up rock hard today . Idk if I should pump it all out for relief or just pump a little bit before feeding so A can latch better. Itās so hard to know what to do in these tough situations. Sending you all the encouragement and hugs ā¤ļø youāre doing a great job and I hope the forceful let downs are a thing of the past real soon.

How long do your LOās nurse at a time? Finn gets so sleepy sometimes itās a struggle to get him sucking long enough. Iām worried he isnāt getting enough food. He seems to be spitting up a lot too which further worries me what he is getting isnāt doing any good. Iām so tired. Momāing feels extra hard today.

I am really struggling right now too. I am really frustrated with my oversupply and how fussy my LO is. Today I developed what appears to be a clogged duct. I am a mess right here with you. Have you checked in with your care provider or a lactation consultant?

I consider a good feed to be 7-10 minutes. sometimes she snacks at just a few minutes but then is usually hungry again in an hour or less. My babies have always only nursed on one side at a time. every baby is different as far as efficiency though.

He seems to be spitting up a lot too which further worries me what he is getting isnāt doing any good. Iām so tired. Momāing feels extra hard today. Really depends on the baby. LSS if your baby is gaining weight then generally that means heās getting enough. If youāre feeding on demand then he will eat what he needs. My LCās always have told me, āwatch your baby, not the clock.ā (I do like to track feedings but only to help me keep track of which side he used last.) That said, IME... DS1 had a TT, used a nipple shield, and liked to take his time. He would nurse each side for 15-20 minutes. Early on, I often had to wake him between sides. DD was the most efficient baby in the world. She only ever nursed one side at a time, for about 6-8 minutes, and was done. V varies with whether he nurses one side or two. He typically nurses 12-20 minutes per side. Sometimes he falls asleep for like 10 minutes then wakes up and wants to eat more, so I put him on the other side. Other times he falls asleep for 2-5 hours after eating from only one side ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ Still other times he does like a 5-7 minute āsnackā. He does this a lot when he wants to fall asleep and isnāt actually hungry. At any time, if his eyes are closed and heās not really swallowing regularly, I unlatch him because Iām not a pacifier lol. Soāhuge variety between my babies!
