I feel like such a newb. The engorgement pain is real. My boobs are hard as rocks. I remember this lasted longer with DS2 than DS1, but I never pumped or did anything out of fear of creating an oversupply. I tried to use a manual pump last night but it didnāt really do anything. I might have to pump for some relief today. and Iāll try some ice packs š„¶. The good news is I think maybe my nipples are healing, or they are just turning to steel.

I have been dealing with some serious engorgement as well that is finally starting to get a little better. I also never pumped because I didn't want to make it worse. Hot showers have helped give me some relief. Ice packs for sure. I found letting the off side just run helped a lot (although is very messy!) I got some simple little milk collection cups to wear on the other side and the amount of milk I have collected doing nothing at all is insane. How is your LO dealing with it? My nipples are really sore. His initial latch is perfect but because LO can hardly keep up with the milk he bounces off and on to catch his breath. Poor little guy!

k if you are engorged and uncomfortable, you might try a hot shower if you don't want to pump. That should release some milk and soften your boobs without giving to much stimulation and making things worse. If you do pump just do a little for comfort.

We are working on her latch, itās not great. still very painful but i think maybe getting less painful, or Iām just losing feeling in my nips? Iām terrified of mastitis. these first weeks are so not fun.

She told me hydration and rest would be my best defense again mastitis.

My engorgement was really bad this time. And the leakiness is worse too. It still is plaguing me on day 24. Part of the issue is his complete unpredictability with eating and sleeping. Sometimes he nurses every hour and sometimes he sleeps 4 hours, then only nurses one side and goes back to sleep for another 3.
I pumped once so far, when he was 12 days old, because I couldnāt take it. I did 7 minutes and got almost 5 oz š± I really want to be careful not to stimulate more milk because I tend towards oversupply. But he will he a month old next week (wtf) and I am thinking about adding a morning pump session at that point to begin saving some freezer milk for the eventual times I have to be away from him.
What really helped me with engorgement was heat. Either hot shower right before nursing, or hot wet washcloth laid over my chest.

so my work has an annual in service Feb 12. Itās not a big deal if i miss it, but they asked if I could come in at least for a few hours to sign off on some of the trainings. You also accrue a day of PTO for going, so if I worked a half day Iād get paid for that plus another half day of PTO. Am I crazy for even considering going? B will be 3 weeks old. My mom would watch her.

My milk fully arrived yesterday, and holy engorgement. I had been pumping at the hospital while DS was supplementing, but he was still nursing as well, so I was anticipating it to be pretty bad this time around. I just pumped this morning for a few minutes to soften things so that B can get a good latch, and Iāll probably keep that up. It was the approach that I used with DS1, so weāll see if it works without creating too much of an oversupply.
Iām also eating everything in sight...Iāll shamelessly take advantage of the BFing ādietā for the last time š Now excuse me while I go have third breakfast after my MOTN ice cream sandwich and lactation cookies.

Iām going to throw out the suggestion of the Haakaa silicone pump. Iāve been popping it on one side to collect the leak of the let down while I nurse the other side. I get about 1.5 oz. it helps with the engorgement and Iām slowly collecting a little storage supply for the freezer

I knew there was something like that but I couldn't remember the name. I may have to invest in one. I bought a hands free pumping bra ff Amazon last night and can't wait for it to arrive. It came recommended by about 15 people in my S15 group.

Lurking from N18/D18, I also have the simple wishes pumping bra and really like it! I had the medela one last time around and this one is a lot nicer and more adjustable.

Engorgement is finally getting user control. Iāve spent one pumping session every day massaging out lumps and bumps after pummeling myself with hot water in the shower, and itās definitely paid off. Things were getting pretty painful for a few days there. PSA: Remember to check your milk for excess lipase. My milk tends to smell/taste metallic after being in the fridge for a few days or after freezing. I discovered it with DS1 and had to scald my milk before freezing because he wouldnāt take it. My SIL ended up having to donate her entire freezer stash because she didnāt know until many months had passed. kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/lipase-expressedmilk/

I threw out hundreds of ounces. It sucked. My milk tastes bad even after a day so I had to scald at work.

And a solid 25% or more of the time I'd forget and burn it when scalding it so have to throw it away right away. Argh not looking forward to that again. Neither boy took a bottle because they hated the taste, even scalding it didn't help completely. I don't blame them, it was super weird tasting if not fresh.

My milk is here! It started coming in yesterday morning and I watched in fascination as they literally expanded before my eyes lol
Finn seems to be doing okay latching on still. We are using a nipple shield 100 percent of the time. The LC said itās okay if thatās what works. My nips are too small and flat for him to latch onto. I donāt want to jinx anything but Iām surprised itās going better than I thought so far. I think the universe owes me a break on this one being as my induction went awful and my c-section recovery has been hell so far š
