Sunday morning H and I decided to try to get things moving with a little ST. Very shortly after mild contractions started, at a very regular intervals 20-30 sec ever 2-3 min. They continued that way through the mid afternoon where we went to a kid’s bday party. Things started to intensify a bit, enough to call the midwife one call. She thought it was early or prodromal labor and recommended to just continue tracking and either rest and see if they slowed down or keep moving to see if we could turn them into something productive. We had another party to go to where things continued to pick up.
By the time we got home at 4:30, I realize I was in legit labor. Contractions were last 35-45 secs, every 6 minutes with increasing intensity. After calling the midwife, we made plans for the in laws to come pick up DD and headed to the hospital around 7 pm.
We were admitted and quickly got a cervical check, starting at at 6.5 cm. I opted to labor in the shower, where I was set up with a stool that I straddled. H was an AMAZING coach/support person. With each contraction he cued me to breathe, applied strong counter pressure and gave me positive affirmations as we got closer and closer.
Once I got to a place where I was struggling to avoid pushing, they had me come out of the shower. This was about 9:30. A few contractions later, I was checked again- this time about 9 cm but my water had not broken. My midwife gave me the option to break it, but warned me that things would get intense real quick and she guessed the babe would be here in less that 15 min. She was right! After breaking it, I immediately had the urge to push. After a few strong pushes, out came sweet little Sydney Hayes at 9:59 pm!
She weighs in at 7 lbs 8 oz and is 20 1/2 in long. She is a spitting image of DD, but with chubbier cheeks and we are all so in love! We go home tomorrow!
