I'm back to work this week starting yesterday. I feel like I have a vacation hangover. Kids don't go back to school until next Monday/Tuesday. It's been nice to have time off with them, but the end of this 2 weeks is starting to feel very long!

Hi! Happy New Year everyone!
Just chuggin’ along here. We’ve been doing pre-k tours for fall. It’s a whole process in NYC— free pre-k for all, but you apply, with a list of up to 10 (I think) schools in the spring, and then there’s a weighted lottery where they match you. Then you do it all over for K.
But I am actually really excited because our zoned school (so we have priority there, and should get in, unless for some reason there are too many zoned kids who also want it), is my favorite school that we toured! Hopefully there’s no issue getting placed there!

coconutbacon, It's so awesome that you have free pre-k! You deserve it after paying crazy day care prices for the past few years! I hope you get your top choice school for P. Is it full day? Do they offer aftercare?

Yes— so excited not to have to pay crazy daycare bills! Counting the days down until September! It’s full day— from about 8 to 3. Free breakfast and lunch for all too. And then there are different after school options until 6. Those do cost money, but it’s a tiny fraction of what we’ve been paying.

Dd just asked me "am I not in your heart anymore??" Because I worked out after she went to bed without her haha. Then she stayed up to ask me that. Now shes sleeping in my bed 🤣
I totally have vacation hangover too. Good thing tomorrow is Friday...

Hi 🙂 life has been busy here. Hope life is going well for everyone! I am around, but mostly I lurk the blinds and royal threads. I feel like I can't really keep up with posting much.
DS1 started preschool and speech therapy, we're hoping for a great experience and major improvement. DD is in kindergarten and doing well, though she struggles with social things. She's getting ready to start ballet back up, which I'm hoping helps with the self confidence, and we're starting girl scouts (I'm going to be a leader). DS2 was 1 in October, and is so busy, and so fun now that he's actually letting us all sleep at night.

I'm here. Happy new year ladies.
I started my year off with an ER trip Wednesday night to find out I have a kidney infection. So I'm just chugging along trying to keep everything around me from falling apart while I feel terrible. I have to take a 2 week course of antibiotics 😫

Morning. I am in Florida visiting the ILs. We went to the pool yesterday and out with my sister and her H last night so of course the kids are up earlier that usually this morning.

Things have been good but busy over here. M loves preschool. We just added OT (in school and privately) to help deal with sensory issues. I love my new position at work, and am feeling very satisfied with my career.
I actually took today off to get the house ready for basement work starting on Monday. We have to get a drainage issue fixed, but we're hoping to be able to refinish the room and move things to create a playroom.

Hi there! 👋🏼 I hope everyone is doing great and that you all had a great holiday season. A is in preschool- she goes 5 days a week for 3 hours a day- she loves it! She’s had 3 really high fevers in 3 months with no other symptoms, so that has been a bit scary. The first got up to 105.7 and lasted a week, 2nd was 104.9 and lasted 10 days, the last was 106.2 and lasted 5 days. They’ve done xrays and haven’t found anything, blood work hasn’t given any answers, just shows elevated levels here and there that don’t actually say anything. So each time she gets a fever we start more tests. They’re limited on how much blood they can draw at a time and we have to wait a week in between blood draws, so it’s not the easiest to work through. She’s been a trooper though, even when we can tel she feels miserable from the fever. J turned one in November. That’s about it over here...

Sorry you are sick RunsforWineandCarbs. DD1 had fifth's disease right before Thanksgiving. Apparently it was going through her school. In addition to the telltale rash on her cheeks, her body was covered in a splotchy rash for about 2 weeks. We joked with her that she was turning into a giraffe since it spread to different parts of her body over the course of a week. I've heard that it's usually pretty mild if you get it as an adult, and once kids have the rash they're supposedly not contagious anymore. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Add me to the wondering-what-will-happen-with-prek list. Our situation is kind of weird with a redistricting situation for the year after so we are hoping to get him into the closer school for pre-k instead of him going farther for just pre-k then coming to the closer one for k. If that makes any sense. That will also affect if he is full day or half day, due to the programs the schools have. Both are public, they just serve different populations and have different funding sources and stuff. And it will also affect our day care situation, since I'd like to keep them together if we need before and/or after care but we might be able to avoid those. Depending... That's for E, of course. He is doing pretty well, sometimes he's a total handful as all three year olds can be and other times he is a real sweetheart. I love all the little words he still mispronounces (like "aminals") and the cute stuff he says (like he always says "I love you too" and not just "I love you"). He continues to impress us with his physical feats of coordination, and he's into robots and dinosaurs and Transformers. He does pretty well with his baby sister. She is about 11 months old and such a sweetie. She's a chill baby and has even STTN a few times lately for me (watch, I've jinxed it for tonight....). She started walking right before 10 months and gets.into.everything. She climbs up the trampoline to get on the couch, for example. She's into toilet paper, the dishwasher, and jingle bells.

Good to hear from you mrspiatt. Sorry to hear about the fevers. I can't imagine how scary it must be to see temps that high!

easternshoregirl, I love the mispronunciations too. They're so cute. I was actually a bit sad that A learned to say a real "L" sound recently. It makes her sound so grown up. Fortunately it's hit or miss, so she still says "I wuv you".

There are 2 elementary schools similar distance from us but the one we are zoned for doesn't bus to the daycare we use for after care while the other one does. I'm irrationally sad about this.

Yes, there are a few things we may need to change due to which pre-k that E goes to, but we might not find out until summer! I really don't want the kids at different day cares but V will still be under 2 so I don't know the likelihood of us finding a different spot for her. We will figure it out but there is def a best case scenario and a not as good one.

I would be sad too. The bus makes things so much less complicated after school! Does the school offer aftercare?

flippinchica, I feel ya. We live like 300m from the elementary school DS goes to and he has taken the bus both years. Last year his bus ride was half hour and this year its about 20 minutes. Feels stupid to drive him 20 minutes away and then he waits for the bus and comes back but that's the daycare sitch.
