Happy new year friends! And happy birthday month to our J17 babies!
We celebrated early with friends and didn’t stay up until midnight. We spent most of today purging and organizing and it feels good to go back to work with an organized house. Under 2 weeks until M’s baby doll tea party and I need to get moving on party prep!

We stayed home and played games. I got Forbidden Island for Christmas and love it. All I wanted was chips and guac so that was that. I did not stay up but was woken up at midnight by fireworks. Does that count?
I did make a mini champagne tower with vintage hollow stemmed glasses I found at my grandma’s house. So we were kind of fancy.
poof.

Ahhhhh birthdays! I haven’t even thought about it yet. It will just be immediate family this year but I suppose I should get on that.
More importantly, Mh has arranged a kid free weekend in the city for this weekend as an early birthday present to me. I am so excited and drooling over menus already. And a giant king size bed and not getting up at 6am.

Here’s my fancy NYE photo. Our bffs who have 2 kids the same age as ours came over for appetizers and to let the kids run around. My friend made this delicious croquembouche (puff pastries filled with chocolate cream) and a delicious champagne cocktail. My appetizers weren’t nearly as photogenic 🤷🏻♀️

So jealous of your kidfree weekend away Lakes! It’s been 2 years since we’ve gone away kidfree and I’m counting down to my mom’s retirement in April when I plan to rope her into a long weekend of babysitting. Enjoy every delicious meal and the no kids schedule!

We did appetizers for dinner and throughout the night and made some cookies we were playing games on the Xbox last night and went to bed shortly after midnight no fun here.
No party to plan but I am excited to hear about everyone turning 2!
I think we are going to the Bahamas in March so we are trying to plan that out. We will age to share a room with E and we have never done that. There is so much I stress about it because everything is so expensive there and the worry of how to keep her occupied too without all of her toys. Also thinking about Disney for September.
Eta: going to the Bahamas because IL’s spend the whole month of March down there and they really want us and E to come down for a week.

How are glasses going peaseblossom55? A couple of days ago dd slipped on the kitchen tile and landed on the side of her face (why can’t this girl get her hands out?!) She must have hit the glasses just right in a weak spot because the arm shatter/sheared right off. Luckily it didn’t go in her eye but she did get a goose egg right next to where her stitches scar is 😭. Vision insurance started with the new year so we should be able to get new frames. Her follow up appointment for bifocals is next week so we’re waiting until then to make any decisions. So for now she’s rocking the super glue and electrical tape look 😬 Even though she’s good with them I am so over it. We didn’t have vision until now so we’ve paid out of pocket for the frames, three sets of lenses, plus three soon to be four pediatric opthamalogist copays. Oh. And a $75 trip to the ER for the stitches. We’re getting close to an unplanned $1,000 and I want to cry.

peaseblossom55 We did a week in Hilton Head in October. It can be stressful but over all it wasn’t as awful as I imagined. -Toys: we didn’t bring toys. The only thing there was a little box of little rubber animals and a couple books my mom brought so it was new to them and it kept them entertained all week. So I think you could get away with minimal toys. -sleeping arrangements: it does kind of suck. We had a suite. So we could hang in the living room after bedtime but shared the bedroom with both kids. Not ideal but we survived. White noise for the very big win. I have shared a single hotel room with just one kid and sleeping was fine but getting him to sleep was not. Mh and I had to hide in the bathroom for 20 minutes because he won’t go to sleep if we’re in the room. -the kids were so busy and exhausted from swimming and vacation activities and grandparent attention that everything went surprisingly well.

peaseblossom55, What an awesome vacation plan! But yes, definitely stressful. I hope it goes smoothly. Happy birthday little J17ers! We're just having immediate family over for dinner and some sort of dessert and absolutely nothing is planned at this point. There was some huge drama that went down on my side of the family over the last year and because of it, my brother and his wife are pretty much only talking to H and I and don't want anything to do with the rest of the family so parties seem overwhelming. I hate it all. As far as NYE was concerned, we spent the evening at my parents playing cards and Bingo and I failed to stay there until midnight. They did keep the boys for a sleepover, though, so H and I slept the next morning away before going back for brunch and playtime in the snow.

Lakes glasses have been going well! I missed the window to get vision insurance so anything this year it out of pocket. We found out about her needing glasses of course after my window closed for this year. I’m sorry it’s gotten so expensive but yay for vision insurance now. E has an appointment 1/16 so we will see if anything needs to change. There was mention at the first appointment of patching ugh I hope that’s not the case. Whatever it is we will deal. I’m sorry dd fell again I hope the tape holds! I always worry E will fall and the glasses will somehow make it worse. In the Bahamas we will have a separate bathroom and living area so that’s nice but yea sharing a room may be tough. She won’t be used to it either yes definitely would need some white noise. She can’t fall asleep without it anyway. 😄

peaseblossom55 the timing is always awful! Insurance only covers one frame and set of lenses but at least that’s something. My little nephew is patching. Sil said he was grumpy the first day but after that he’s fine with it and does everything normal. I think he does 4-6 hours a day? They start at home and he wears it the first bit of daycare. In exciting new: preschool opens today! 🎉🎉 that was the longest 2.5 weeks every. I know ds has only been going since September but it’s amazing how quickly I got use to having two days a week with only one kid for a bit.

Just got home from my kid free weekend in the city. It was marvelous. Now it’s back to reality. Our hotel was in a great location and the weather mostly cooperated so we were able to walk everywhere. It saved us cab/Uber money and helped with the calorie situation. We did lunch and a very fancy steakhouse dinner on Saturday and a super indulgent brunch at one of my fav places today. Gin cocktails at all meals for me. I’m not stepping on the scale for a couple days. The special Vikings exhibit at one of the museums was pretty neat.

Lakes, That sounds like heaven. The closer I get to the end of this pregnancy, the more I resent not being able to drink lol It's taking a toll on my ability to forgive people for having flaws.

Waiting at the pediatric opthamalogist for dd’s bifocal followup. I’m not sure how much they’re helping as her eye stills turns a fair amount when she’s looking at something up close. Sighs. I don’t want another script change but I’m not sure what the alternative is at this point. He said something about her not being a surgery candidate at this time. Fx crossed for something easy.

Update: he says her eye isn’t drifting when she uses the bifocals and when we see it drift it’s because she’s using the top part to look upclose. Phew. I guess you can’t really explain to a two year old how to use bifocals and it has only been three weeks. We don’t have to go back for five months! 🎉🎉
Still need to get a new set of frames but the super glue and electrical tape fix has been holding up pretty well 😂

Ds had TWO birthday parties yesterday, his first non-family ones. The first was a school friend at a really sweet playplace I hadn’t been to before and the second was our neighbor friend. He had a blast.
We got about two inches of fluffy snow last night. Everything looks beautiful and my bird feeder is hopping. I’m sitting at the kitchen window with my coffee watching all the activity. It’s my first winter with a heated bird bath and the birds are excited (so am I!) #birdnerd
I hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

M is two! We celebrated with a baby doll tea party and she absolutely loved it. I both cannot believe she is two and feel like she’s been part of our family forever. ❤️
We have her 2 year check up Friday but I weighed her this morning. She was right at 22 pounds which is just a few ounces more than DS weighed at 1 Year 😂

Guys. The always in motion, almost two year old is sleeping on my lap and I’m melting. She took a short nap and woke up pissed. I turned on the lullaby album and started cuddling her and she eventually conked back out. Today is my birthday and it’s the sweetest present ever.
Except now I’m stuck in this chair, my right arm is falling asleep, and I really really have to pee.

Happy birthday Lakes! A snuggle nap truly is the best present, but of course it happens when you have to pee!
