Y’all. My boobs. They hurt so bad that I’m on the verge of tears. How did you get passed the engorgement stage? I’m pumping every 2-3 hours. Nothing seems to bring relief. Did some Googling, but still lost over here.
Dude isn’t currently latching for extended periods. We lost those handful of days in the NICU, so we’re still getting on that train.

Heat or ice or both worked for me. I used a heating pad and ice. It did take almost 2 days get past the pain but I did. Message your boobs while pumping and make sure your rubbing your arm pits too, theres ducts in there also. If you find a lump or a clog you can’t work out, use a wide tooth comb to work it out while pumping or in the shower. Keep working at it,, it hurts like heck but you’ll get through it.

Thanks, meggos! I woke up this morning and was like, omg, this is not cool. I was offensively encouraged. I looked like a porn star I am not quite sure how anything came out when I pumped. Lansinoh makes these great ice\heat packs that fit on the flanges they are wonderful and helped a lot!

Ugh, I’m sorry. Engorgement was the worst postpartum thing for me by far with both kids. I will echo hot showers (and hand express/massage in the shower) and cool pads.
One of the hardest things for me during the engorgement period is how difficult it is for baby to latch when they’re rock hard. So frustrating. I would pump and/or hand express just enough to relieve the extreme engorgement, but not enough to signal to my boobs to make more.
Remind yourself that this will pass! I had a big improvement after 48-hours and even better after 72.

Engorgement is really the worst. I second those heat/ice packs that lansinoh makes. I have one set it the freezer and one set I heat when needed now. However, I forgot to buy them in my post delivery amazon haul though and I saw a suggestion on the internet to fill a diaper with hot water and lay it on your boobs while pumping or nursing and that was a god send. I’ve had two clogged ducts since and this has also helped to clear them immediately.

It’s seriously terrible. My chest is on fire. The shower brought brief relief, but it’s back to being super painful again. Trying to get him to latch. He gets a few good sucks and then stops. I’m having a hard time even hand expressing. They’re just so hard and swollen.
Like, should I stop pumping for a hot second? Or keep doing it every 2-3 hours? God, I’m so BFing dumb.

Keep pumping! You need to get that milk out! At least that’s what I did and I am by no means a breastfeeding or pumping pro. Just know what I have learned in my experience.

summerrain THE DIAPER WAS THE TICKET. Holy milk, Batman. Going to take a few pumping sessions to get it all out, especially since we have to go to an appointment. But what a start.

Yay, so so glad the diaper trick worked for you!! My H looked at me like I was crazy the first time but it worked so I didn’t care. Now it’s my go to!
