So is anyone thinking about stuff they want yet for the baby? Are you planning on buying any new things or do you already have what you need? Anything you just can't live without? Or things you will definitely not be using again?
Yep. I'm all about baby talk:)

I'm excited for this thread. We bought the bare minimum for DD because we had no idea what we would need. So this time around I wouldn't mind making a few purchases of things that will make my life easier. But that being said, I'm also freaking out about having two kids in our tiny house, so I'm still going to be as minimalist as possible. I have all gender neutral clothing for newborn-3month clothes, and the new baby will sleep in the pack in play in our room until they move until the other room. I did breast feeding for a while then switched to exclusive pumping, so I'm pretty set on bottles and everything too. Oh I also have a pretty decent stash of cloth diapers so I won't need too many NB diapers. So I'm not really sure what else I need but I want to buy at least one thing for the new baby!

The main thing I would like is a video monitor. We had just an audio monitor for DS and eventually put a WiFi cam in his room but the Wi-Fi cam doesn't work well for continuous monitoring unless we had a device to devote to it.
I wouldn't mind some new swaddles and cloth diapers but don't really need them.
We do need a new infant carseat since our last was a hand me down and has since expired.

We bought a lot of grey/back/white/neutral colors so if we have a girl I'd buy a set of pink stuff for each size, some pink blankets and call it good. We have everything else, swing, bouncy seat, pnp, all the stuff. We didn't use much of it for DS, but we got it all to be prepared for kids being different and liking different stuff. I will be trying to avoid all the baby holders, DS loved the swing for the first 3 months, and he got a flat head because of it.
I'd get more/new bottles, but that can wait until I stop BF. I'll dig out all the baby toys and maybe get some new teethers. Car seat is still good, but I'll need a second high chair, DS is still using the booster seat part.
I do however need a new newborn tub. The one we had I gave away because it didn't fit in our sink. And probably size 1 or 2 diapers, I have some left overs though.

We were very minimalist with DD. We were in a very small house so there wasn't room for anything. Plus DD hated everything anyways.
We have a crib (which DD only used for the first 6 months), a bouncer that she hated, and the original and 360 Ergos that she lived in. Oh and her stroller (which she also hated and so did I). We have a high chair that DD also never used. I also bought a new Ergo sport 2 summers ago before we knew about our first loss so I'm excited to use that.
We need a new infant car seat since ours will be expired (purchased in 2013...DD is a Jan '14 babe), and I want a halo bassinet. Also if it's a boy we'll need some clothes.
Luckily DD has a wide range of interests so we won't need to buy any toys until LO is quite a bit older.
And I'm all set for mat clothes.
So I guess I just need bassinet and car seat and possibly some clothes.

2 of DHs co workers used the Halo bassinet and raved about it. The first one actually got it because DH complained about what bad sleepers our kids were. So we may get one of those, though I usually do the breast sleeping thing to save my sanity.
We will need new bottle nipples.
I need to check if the infant car seat is expired.
We should be set with everything else.

Oh yeah, I also want a bassinet. I've been looking at the arms reach one though. Has anyone tried that one, did you like it?

FTM here, so I need everything! I will happily take all the gear recommendations!
We do have some random things already. We found a glider we loved when BRU went out of business, so bought it on super clearance. I also got an Ergo, and some other gender neutral nursery gear that was on sale. And recently the kids consignment store near us had a onesie sale for 20 onesies for $10 so we picked up a bunch of gender neutral onesies in different sizes there. But I’ll need other clothes like pants and such.

courtniko I'm so glad you said that about the Halo. I've been going back and forth because I don't know anyone IRL who had one. But I'm glad you heard it works! I bed shared with DD starting at 6 months but won't be able to do the same with LO until we're in our new house. So I'm hoping the bassinet works out!

bonzo Our ergo was the best purchase I ever made. DD was in it virtually all the time. I cooked, cleaned, worked out, went shopping, went on day trips, to parties...virtually everything with her in there. She napped in there too while I went about my daily routine. I am hoping this LO likes it just as much. It was the one thing I would not have been able to live without since DD would not let me put he down. Ever. She was still asking to go in it at 2 and 3 years old. She called it "going in mama's pocket"

Back in March I visited my BFF in AZ and got to try out some of her baby gear with her son (then 6 months). I tried both her Ergo and Moby. I liked them both, partly because he likes both so was really happy either way. I might still want a wrap for the tiny baby stage, but I think the Ergo might be easier for running errands and especially if H wants to use it.

I agree a baby carrier is a must. I have a lillebaby and love it, we actually have the carryon (toddler version)now for my 3 year old for hikes. I also loved my ring sling for the infant stage because it was so easy to do up and down. I might try a ktan also this time since I find the Moby so cumbersome to do.

I was thinking about getting a K'tan for this one too. Anyone used one of these?
I have to round up my sleep sacks too. I LOVE my Halo sleep sacks. DD hated being swaddled so we never swaddled her but we have a couple of the swaddle sacks we might get to use this time. Definitely the regular ones though!

For those thinking about carriers, I really liked the Moby for baby, baby carrying. I like the Eargo when they get bigger. And my favorite is the BittyBean, especially if you live somewhere it gets hot.
The Moby is a pain, but it is nice and snug for little ones.

The three things I just got for a FTM for her shower that I found invaluable: Sit Me Up Floor Seat, Sound machine and Healthy Sleep Habits for Healthy Kids book.

If you guys get a baby carrier please make sure it’s an ergonomic carrier so that baby’s hips/joints are supported. These carriers are typically pricier but worth it.
I live and die by my Tula- I have a ring sling and the regular carrier. My 3.5 year old still uses it if we are going somewhere we need to do a lot of walking and/or I don’t want to lose her (theme park, farmers market, airport).

Also if you’re on FB and interested in babywearing the Tula Love group is a great place for FAQ, etc and Babywearing on a Budget has all kinds of carriers and none can post for more than $100. Tula B/S/T site is also good for second hand carriers and sometimes you can find a great buy.

I saved some things but since I bought most of my stuff from consignment with E I didn’t save a ton except clothes and small items. We have her crib still. I need a rock n play, bouncy seat, Sit Me Up, new infant car seat (we gave away E’s) and I want the new Tula Explorer carrier versus a Free to Grow.

Anyone have a good infant car seat rec? DD hated hers and screamed in it constantly. Or should I just start in a convertible this time? I'm thinking infant seat might be best to start but the convertible we have is amazing and comes with an infant insert...and we have a second one which isn't expired yet so I could just use that to start. I'm torn. Suggestions?

I want a wrap carrier this time so I can comfortably carry baby as a newborn. I have a love a Tula but I used it out of the house more than while home.

I’ve been watching a FB Marketplace posts, and was able to get a really good deal on some barely used cloth diapers. A nice variety of AIOs to try different brands and fits, plus some extra inserts. I figure if I buy a few diapers each month of pregnancy, I’ll have a good stash by the time baby arrives and then that money can go to other baby needs!

I think you might regret no infant seat- so many times in the first couple months they fall asleep and then you would have to wake them up to get the out of the seat rather than just grabbing the entire infant seat. We used the Graco brand.

elephantastic Thanks:) You're right. I should just suck it up and get a new infant seat. You're right about the convenience and not wanting to wake a sleeping baby. DD LOVED the car once we got her out of the infant seat (around 6 months I think). Immediately loved it. So I was never really sure if it was the seat she hated or if it was just a phase. But I'm definitely not buying the brand we had (SO bought a Baby Trend travel system because it was on a super sale. I hated the seat and the stroller:/). Thank you for the rec too:)

sammysam, I'm in the same situation as you. My DD hated the infant seat. And people always say how easy it is just to carry the whole seat around while the baby sleeps, but I really can't remember a single time DD slept in her carrier. She always woke up soon as the car stopped. I'm thinking about buying a convertible car seat to have ready in case the next baby is the same way. I think I'll probably be doing more babywearimg this time around. I HATED carrying that heavy infant seat around anyways. And after having a C section it is so hard as well.

sunny75 I never carried it around. Only in and out of the house. I always had DD in a carrier which is why I was considering not getting one this time around. But with having to take DD to school in the mornings and pick her up after it'll save time if baby is just in an infant seat for those rides. And for DD's activities too maybe? It's probably going to depend on whether baby likes sleep or not. If not then I imagine I'll switch to a convertible pretty quickly as I'll be baby wearing as much as possible.

A really good bath tub. We hated the one we got as a gift but used it because we had it, but we'll be buying something better this time around.
I got a lot of 'receiving blankets' that were just little flannel things and I used them as burp cloths, but ultimately the old school cloth diapers were the best and I bought a ton. I need to get more actually.
A little bag for socks in the washer, so they didn't disappear.
Lots of noisy teethers and crinkle books
If you're going to use bottles at all, one of those grass like dryers.

Any bassinet recommendations? I’d been looking at the Halo, but we have a chest bed with drawers underneath, so I’m not sure it would work. Have any of you used the Halo? Thoughts?
