I want to get serious about my weights. My husband is on board as well.
What is the best way to get a set of weights. Order a rack and pick up what we need as needed?
Where should I shop? I'm in the Chicago area, so I can access several stores if needed.

How much is your budget? How much weight do you think you will need? How much room do you have?
If you have a place that sells used equipment, I would start there. It gets pricey fast.

I want a decent quality rack. It will need to hold probably up to 40lb weights. So 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 for me. 20-40lbs for my husband. This will most likely end up being a holiday splurge for my husband and I. I'm hoping around 100 - 250 for the rack. And weights as needed. Anything I should look for if I go second hand? And weights I should avoid? Ones you would recommend?

Big thing to watch if you are getting it second hand is that it will hold the larger weights and if it will work for iron or neoprene (most do but there are some snowflakes out there). Angled tiers are nice so you don't smash your fingers (I still manage to do this about every 6 months or so). The A frame style likely won't hold the heavier weights you plan to get. These have some decent ones in the range you are looking at. www.top5reviewed.com/dumbbell-racks/CAP is a pretty common brand that hold up well.

I was definately looking for a rack instead of an a-frame. I think I'm going to check out a local second hand store first and see what they have now that I know what I want. We'll be converting our storage area into a small work out are in the next 2 months so we should have decent space for a rack that will be out of the way.

We should probably get a weight rack. All of ours just live in piles on the basement floor. H almost brought one home from work too. I should have encouraged him to.
