benandjerrys please clarify if you are both pregnant and BFing. The things to avoid are a bit different.

As far as sunscreen goes, Asian sunscreens are usually more comestically elegant and offer more protection than traditional ones. White cast is a huge factor for me and eliminates a lot of options. I'll come back with links tomorrow, but Biore makes my favorite.

benandjerrys please clarify if you are both pregnant and BFing. The things to avoid are a bit different. Just breastfeeding, not pregnant. ETA I have dark spots or "pregnancy mask" leftover from my recent pregnancy (baby is 6 mo).

I couldn't find an English list of ingredients on the biore so that scared me because I don't know what I'm supposed to avoid.

Thank you! I couldn't find an English list of ingredients on the biore so that scared me because I don't know what I'm supposed to avoid. Hi! I’ve recently gone down the rabbit hole on sunscreen. What I’ve learned through research is that the US regulates sunscreen as a medicine and it takes forever to get new ingredients approved. I believe the last ingredient cleared by the FDA was in 1999. Conversely, in Asia (and Europe) there’s much more a focus on skincare in general and sunscreen is a very in demand product. As a result, the R&D there is just better resulting in better protection and ‘feel’. I ordered the Biore and I’m waiting for it to arrive. I’ve never been so excited about sunscreen before! 😂 Thats really interesting. Is it mineral based? I try to pick those for the kids so I'm wondering if I should do something like that for myself too? Just wondering if you came across that in your research?

Just wondering if you came across that in your research? No, it’s chemical. I think most are (But I could definitely be wrong! I’ll let Taitai with all her infinite knowledge respond. 😉) I love the blog linked below and I know she only does physical sunscreens. I’m waiting to see how the Biore does for me because it’s sooo cheap. But if it doesn’t work out, I’ll probably try a physical sunscreen. I have crazy sensitive skin so I am worried. I’ll let you know how it ends up working for me. www.snowwhiteandtheasianpear.com/2015/09/goodal-mild-protect-natural-filter-sun.html?m=1Hahaha - thanks for the tag @karenwalker. Yes, most Japanese sunscreens are chemical. However, there are some physical/mineral/organic ones made by Asian Beauty brands that are physical and leave minimal to no white cast. The blog @karenwaller listed is a good one with non-chemical options. I know Make P:rem does a good physical sunscreen. I think you’ve received lots of good advice, and if you are interested in more info regarding the AB skincare philosophy that I follow, you should def join us over at the HIH AB thread! Routines don’t need to be complicated to be effective. howeverithappened.proboards.com/thread/1520/asian-beauty-skincareFor your concerns, I would recommend a routine like below: Morning: 1. Wash face with the philosophy stuff you have (since you seem to like it) 2. Moisturizer- the day cream you have is fine if you like it. 3. Sunscreen - if you use BHAs (below) and exfoliating face was (your philosophy stuff), you really really should be using sunscreen on your face every day. What I linked above is physical - ask your doc about ingredients if you are concerned about breastfeeding issues. Evening: 1. Wash with low ph face wash - I like Cosrx good morning low ph face wash 2. Vit C serum - T’iam signature C source is good. Klairs also makes a 5% L-AA serum that is gentler and popular. 3. BHA (spot treat on areas of concern, such as large pores and blackheads) -Cosrx blackhead power liquid. Most doctors will say BHA use is fine while breastfeeding, but some are strict. I would ask yours before starting BHAs. 4. Serum with niacinimide - the ordinary makes a good one. 5. Moisturizer - if you like the night cream you have, keep using it! 6. Eye creams - if you like what you have, no need to change. Eye creams are tough, because they can cause milia if they are too heavy. For me, eye cream is a trial and error process. Good luck!

benandjerrys I would ditto a lot of the suggestions the ladies here have mentioned so far. The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc that Taitai is pretty good for pore size and reducing sebum production. I had a lot of issues with acne and then the dark marks left from the acne while I was breastfeeding. The two products that made the biggest difference in fading the dark marks quickly were The Ordinary’s Alpha Arbutin and HA serum and a snail cream (I use Mizon’s All in One Snail Repair Cream, but I think it’s really the snail and boy the brand that’s magic 😉) ETA I also really like Cosrx Honey overnight mask, it’s very hydrating while still being light, and propolis is also supposed to help with dark mark reduction

Update: I'm a hundred dollars poorer and can't wat for my Amazon order!!!! It all adds up so quickly doesn’t it? Hope you like the new stuff! Also, I’d recommend starting the new stuff slowly- like adding 1 new product a week...or space the new stuff out by a few days at the very least. That way, if your skin doesn’t like something, you can pinpoint which product it is. Good luck!
