nellieoleson how's the air quality where you are? It's awful here, because a lot of BC is on fire It’s pretty bad. Rated “unhealthy” and very, very hazy. The sky has been brown for two weeks. We have been cooped up inside since the air is too bad to spend time outdoors. I took the girls out to the coast for a couple days last week to escape it, although I just heard it’s reached out there now, too. I’m so depressed this is becoming the new normal for summer here. I don’t remember it ever being smoky when I was growing up — even 10 years ago I don’t remember anything like this. Now this is the third year in a row.

Last week wasnt too bad here, but today was bad enough that the air quality was rated unhealthy, and it's so haxy that the sun is red. We woke up to the sky being orange. S has needed his puffer a few times in the last week or so too.

nellieoleson and lollipop I can’t imagine air quality that poor. It was extremely hazy here last week and it was miserable. I’m glad it wasn’t worse. We need rain though. It’s been 10 days of 90+ degrees.

We have the fire haze here again too. Not fun! I am struggling with sleep. 3/4 kids were up at least once the last several nights. Coughing, peeing, falling out of bed, crying....mostly legit reasons, but it’s exhausting! I love our big family, but sometimes I look at people with one or two kids and I’m like “that’d be so much quieter/cheaper/calmer”. I need a vacation. Unfortunately we sat down and looked hard at our budget and moving is not on the table right now. I keep telling myself it’s ok and we will be that much more grateful when we do move, but the walls are closing in around me some days. I’m trying to be creative with space though so we will see. And perhaps it’ll be easier when the big two are back at school part of the time?

dizzycooks I find it much easier to cope when S is back in school. If for no other reason than it forces me to get out of the house more often.

dizzycooks lack of sleep can make everything harder. You are doing great. I think having the bigs in school will help break up things.

We need rain so badly. All of my fields are brown. 😞 but I can't imagine what you all that are dealing with bad air quality etc. are going through. It really makes me wonder, we have had about 6 straight years of droughty summers. Is this the new normal? We have been trying to swim as much as possible. Almost very night this past week we made it to the beach. L would definitely live in the water if she could.

Almost very night this past week we made it to the beach. L would definitely live in the water if she could. I do wonder about the new normal with our weather. For us, it's been ridiculously humid and gross, but we need water so so bad. As far as swimming goes, dd1 (6) swam for 4 hours straight yesterday. We were invited to a last minute pool party and she got out to pee and eat a plate of food, but otherwise it was constant diving board jumps, swimming and games. I was so proud of her. She has worked hard to get where she's at. Both of my older girls leveled up in their lessons and I was so happy to be able to reward them by going to a pool and playing for the evening. They even slept all night and didn't get up until 7:30 am. Unheard of for them! We have two weeks until school starts and I am getting nervous. Have I mentioned that lately? I swear, I am such an anxious mess these days. I joined a FB group focusing on self improvement and I am trying to keep up and make changes. I need to find *me* again. Along with some level of new normal. On the flip side, ds has a little tooth bud, so please please please pray that is what his problem has been the last few weeks. Of course, once the teeth start, they just keep coming so I don't know if this is a good thing or not. And really, how is my baby that big already??

We are not even close to prepared for school to start. We need to go supply shopping, but I cant access my account om the website where they post the lists, so I have to get it from the mom if a classmate. I think next week, he and I will take a day and get a couple of outfits and indoor shoes.

My friend got dumped via text today, so we drank after my kids went to bed. H took the tablet with him so I have nothing to read. Bummer.

Less than a week to go until baby! We are as ready as we will ever be.... except we don’t have a name. That is stressing me.

dizzycooks we don’t have a lot really! I like Bennett with middle name options Alexander or James but dh isn’t on board with Bennett at the moment. I have some others on my list but nothing stands out really. Jack and Leo are potentials. Dh loves the idea of using our dad’s first names as the baby’s first and middle but I’m not on board because dd doesn’t have a family name. Alexander is dh’s middle and I’m ok with it as a middle option but using both dads names when dd doesn’t have any seems weird to me. It’s probably hypocritical of me to use a family middle then but it seems less extreme. Idk. I’m prob just being cray. I’m just bummed because we loved and still love dds name and I don’t feel that way about any boys names I’ve found. We have been scouring name books and the internet for ideas. Wish us luck. And give us ideas of you have them! 😀

I broke some ribs last week in a freak oopsoe riding fall. But I am glad it wasn't my back because that was a close thing. Additionally on the ct scan/X-rays they saw a mass on my lungs. So I am shitting my pants. Stories from friends would indicate I shouldn't totally freak yet. But still it's a bit hard not to. Doctors appointment next week. But I am guessing there will be months of follow up scans before any further info is available. Le sigh.

Does anyone have any awesome suggestions on how to get kids to put their socks and shoes on without making me furiously irritated? I feel like it takes me asking them 8 times over 25 minutes before we can get out there door. Losing my marbles over here!

I feel like it takes me asking them 8 times over 25 minutes before we can get out there door. Losing my marbles over here! Yeah getting out the door is always a big ordeal. My only suggestion is to wear shoes that don’t need socks when you can and let them pick between two lots of shoes. That helps dd be more enthused about getting dressed etc. we have a meltdown most days when she realizes it’s a school day and it’s sad and also really hard to get out the door. We are doing well but still have my parents here To help. They go home Sunday and then dh off another week. He’s a pretty chill little guy and only cries when he needs something or between the hours of midnight and 3 lol. Thankfully we figured out he does pretty good in the rock n play at night and that has helped tremendously to get some blocks of sleep.

kcrkcs, yikes. I hope your ribs heal quickly and whatever they saw on your lungs ends up being no big deal. dizzycooks, our trip went well, we just go back on Thursday and are dealing with jet lag. Plus DH had to have surgery on his finger (torn tendon the day before we left) yesterday, so he'll be in the hospital until Monday and I'm dealing with the jet lagged girls all by myself. We're all tired and cranky, so that's lots of fun. I'm going on a business trip from Tues-Thurs but DH won't really be able to cook for the girls in the evenings (he hurt his right hand, so it's very hard for him to cut anything), so I'm also trying to pre-cook and freeze several meals that also don't require any cutting. DH had said he could just make frozen pizza until I reminded him that he would then have to cut pizza for 4 people... On the flight back DD2 puked just a few minutes after we landed from our first flight, but since it was bumpy we were hoping it was air sickness. Thankfully she recovered quickly and it didn't happen again, so we'll have to give her some dramamine before our next trip, I think.

We survived the first day of school! S is in a 2/3 split class, away from most of his friends from last year, but unfortunately not away from the kid who was mean to him all last year. He says he likes it though. M and I spent the day with my friend while the big kids were in school.
