Last name starts with R, one syllable. We are aiming for his initials to be EMR to continue with how we named DD. (First initial same as one parent, Middle initial same as other parent, but the parents switch positions for each kid)
I think we are fairly set on Evan as a first name (but Emmett and Everett are still possible options).
Potential MNs: Michael (my maternal grandpa) Marshall (FIL) but we don't love either.
The only M name that is out for sure is Martin (DH's grandpa, not a nice dude).
Any spectacular ideas that we're missing?

Well that’s different. I like family names in the middle even if I don’t like the name it’s self as long as the person means/meant something to me. So I’d go with one of the two you listed. That being said, other M names,
Max Milo Miles Morgan

Michael is definitely the best out of those. Other good M names (I am taking your "Anything except Martin" as permission to put all the unusual names I love in): Milo Myron Mortimer Magnus Mark Mateo Maximilian Mentor Miltiades

ladynemesis, I love the idea of Magnus (and I'm Scandinavian, so there's an argument for it). Thanks for pulling things from the depths!

ladynemesis , I love the idea of Magnus (and I'm Scandinavian, so there's an argument for it). Thanks for pulling things from the depths! Pulling from the depths is my specialty I do love Magnus, and I am also Scandinavian and would name a kid Einarr if given half a chance.

We joked about using Mjölnir....I don't think it will happen, especially with the umlaut. Unfortunately, my family emigrated from there a long time ago, so no one has interesting names in the recent past.
