I feel so defeated today.
There is just so much awful and not enough good. I know we can do better. We NEED to do better, as a country, as people.

Better Days. 😭💔 Tears. So many tears. Bourdain, his family, friends, and colleagues are in my prayers today. Better days will come again. We have to believe it and keep working toward it. But this week feels like an especially sad one.

I was telling my husband this exact thing this morning. These kids being separated from their parents has broken me. Like I feel this country is fucking hopeless.

The trauma these kids and families are experiencing is beyond heartbreaking. I don’t know what to do to stop ICE’s human rights abuses other than giving money to immigrants’ rights groups and protesting. And it isn’t enough.

I really make an effort to reign my shit in with this administration and not get caught up in conspiracy theories and in general taking everything to an 11. But you have an administration who has gotten people to blindly believe that they are only targeting those who try to enter illegally, and that everyone who comes in is MS-13. It's just simply not true. It's right in front of our faces. So I am scared to see where they take this next, because honestly, in reality, it shouldn't get much worse than taking kids from their parents and putting them in literal cages in detention centers. But I fear that's not the case here.

Trump continues to perpetuate the lie that the child separations are because of a Democrat bill:
HOW DOES HE KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH BLATANTLY LYING LIKE THAT?

Dude, you are the fucking president, whether we like it or not, YOU can put a stop to all of it with one swipe of your pen, you asshole. ^that may or may not have been what I yelled at the screen this morning. at work

I've been pondering Pruitt and wondering to myself why these aides just keep doing all of these things that are blatantly against ethics rules (and possibly the law). I know R's aren't known for their backbones- but is anyone standing up for him? Is their job really worth this?
ETA not to sound privileged about just being able to leave a job- I am extrapolating that they are probably afraid to stand up to him for fear of losing a job... but by doing as he says be in violation?

I look at my kid and I feel physically ill thinking some child just his size who looks at me the way he does was ripped from his parents. That orange usurper is branding a whole group of people as animals and his crowd encourages him. We are not heading down the right path. We need leadership that will fight this administration. Democrats have to go harder. They have to be willing to really go to bat for this country. If not, this will no longer be America. We all have to do what we can to speak out and push them. This week need to end.

How do you pardon men who were gunned down in the street or their car or their own fucking backyard who never even got a chance to stand trial?

I hope they call his damn bluff. Do their research and find men and women who shouldn't be in prison and give him a long ass list of names and see what he does with it.

You don't want undocumented immigrants here because they use up federal resources*** so you're going to put them in federal prison. Seems legit.
Fuckers. (Not the immigrants, obviously.)
ETA: ***Which we all know is a BS talking point, but it is one of their talking points, so.

Any ideas what this is about? This seems pretty serious, going after a journalist... I have a little theory bouncing around in my head after stewing about this for a few hours. The Senate resolution was unanimous, so that means even Democrats on SSCI voted in favor of turning over this info to DOJ and not one single Democrat thought there might be shenanigans afoot. Wolfe has been in his job for 30+ years and nobody ever felt the need to replace him. In that time he would have been granted Top Secret clearance 6 times. It is alleged that he had contact with three reporters, only one of whom he was said to be romantically involved with So here's what I think happened. He saw something really freakin alarming during his work with SSCI. Maybe Russia, maybe Qatar, maybe torture-related (SSCI has oversight duties with CIA), who knows. He felt it wasn't being dealt with, so he decided to leak it. Reporter to whom he leaked starts writing the story and, as they typically do, contacts the agency or department in question to ask for comment. The person contacted for comment at DOJ/FBI/CIA/wherever freaks out bc they feel this story could compromise national security. They alert someone at Justice and SSCI. A counterintelligence investigation is opened. FBI interviews Wolfe, he says the leak wasn't him. So they do their FBI thing and figure out it WAS him, so they search his records and data and find every reporter he's ever talked to. They seize records and data from those reporters. We don't actually know that the Times reporter discussion in the story was the recipient of the leaked Intel, or that she was the only one searched. We just know that she's the only one about whom the press have written. I think maybe she wasn't involved at all but bc of their past relationship, she got caught up in the whole thing. Now please feel free to tell me how wrong I am and why bc I'm absolutely just speculating. I welcome feedback.

But I fear that's not the case here. I think that's why I'm in a rough place today. I am *constantly* seeing right wing Trumpians on social media arguing complete fallacies about anyone Trump dislikes (hop down the rabbit hole of things people search about Hillary Clinton on Snopes some time. It's utterly batshit). They hate Obama and Clinton souch that they will accept and cling to any negative information about them without pausing to look at context or verify it's veracity. So when a staffer leaks to the press and a NYT reporter is searched, or when we have an IG report coming out that will shine an unfavorable light on some of Trump's favorite perceived villains, they'll cling to that and scream for years. I'm just basically dreading the next month and I *was* looking forward to a break during my trip to Canada but apparently we ruined Canada, too

It's the witness tampering thing. but this is additional right? did i misunderstand? I don't think this one would be witness tampering bc it's in DC. Wasn't the witness tampering in the EDVA case?
