Taitai, I use rubbing alcohol to clean it. I soak it for about 20 minutes in a small medicine cup filled with alcohol. Then I pull it out and lay it upside down the the plastic case to air dry for a couple of minutes. By the time this is all done, the topical lidocaine has taken enough of an effect for me. I wipe off the lidocaine with a cotton round soaked rubbing alcohol and then roll the area. Wipe the skin again with rubbing alcohol when I am done and follow up with hyaluronic acid, niacinomide, and snail to heal and hydrate the area. A lot of people use vitamin C, but I didn’t want to start any new serums and I don’t use that acid normally. When I am done I rinse it with water and then soak it on rubbing alcohol again. Air dry and put it back in the case. I have been rolling every 2 weeks or so. That area of my skin is dryer, but no peeling or scabbing. I’m not being super aggressive with the rolling. Sheet masks for the few days after I roll seems to help. Slow and steady for me since healing is the whole point and I want long term results with minimal side effects.

beesquared Thank you so much for detailing your process! I’m even more interested in it now - especially since you say you are seeing good results. The way you do it seems really through and would avoid getting bacteria in the skin or anything like that. I have to start reading more about this again!

Also, it’s been about a week since I’ve been using my Innisfree rollerball eye serum thing, and I still like it! I’m not sure the rollerball actually does anything in and of itself, but it does motivate me to use the eye serum more, and I am finding that my eye area is looking more moisturized and with less creepiness. I had been using the Cosrx Snail 92 as an eye cream, and I think it was starting to give me a tiny bit of milia (which I am super prone to), plus the cosrx 92 sometimes made my eyes itchy in the morning. I don’t get any itchiness at all with the Innisfree green tea eye serum, and it’s also light enough that I think the milia risk is lower. Will update again in a few weeks - for now, I’m happy with the product and am still using it each night.

Taitai in what order would you recommend using Vit C serum? Currently on a cleanly showered face, I start with my rx acne medication. Then I put on my cetaphil moisturizer. Should I do vit serum before the moisturizer?

I’m trying to figure out the best way to incorporate new things. Post shower (which since I’m WFH until mid of the year or longer at this point) happens around noon after my lunch workout. So that is when I put my rx, vit c, and moisturizer on. I feel like maybe I should have a bedtime routine too but I have no idea what to use for that? I have mostly oily skin. It’s only dry immediately after a shower. I want to try incorporating stronger Retinol cream too which could be part of the night routine?

I want to try incorporating stronger Retinol cream too which could be part of the night routine? I definitely think it’s a good idea to do a night routine. It’s always best to go to bed with a clean face and skincare products applied. Your nighttime routine could be exactly the same as your morning routing (washing face, meds, Vit C, and/or retinol, and then moisturizer). If you are only supposed to use your prescription medication once a day, you can either just use it at night or day. I’d suggest you put the more powerful stuff - prescription meds and retinol - on before bed. Retinol and acids can be photosensitizing, and that is why it’s best to put it on at night. Also, start slow with retinol. Maybe just once a week, and work your way up to more frequent use of your skin tolerates it. If you get peeling, redness, a really tight feeling - that means you are over-exfoliating, so time to back off. Finally - you should always apply sunscreen as the last step of your routine in the morning/day. Sunscreen is the #1 thing you can do for anti-aging, and also, if you are using acids, prescription meds, and retinol, those things can be photosentizing, which means you need sunscreen to prevent sun damage while using those projects. There are lots of good sunscreen recommendations in this thread that don’t feel greasy/heavy and dry down/settle really nicely. Hope that all makes sense!

Taitai I appreciate all the advice! I will have to check my rx but I think it is only once a day. Re: sunscreen -- I live in MN and because of the pandemic and WFH I leave the house approximately 1 or 2 times a week, if that. And I don't go outside much in the winter ever. Lol. So I am assuming I can leave the sunscreen routine until the spring when I emerge from my winter cocoon again, haha!

I wanted to post here that I’ve been noticing improvement in my skin from only using Vit C and AHA as my actives (no longer using BHA - only because it ran out a few months ago, didn’t really do this on purpose). Since switching to only Vit C and AHA on a daily basis, I’ve noticed that my sebaceous filaments (pores) on my chin and nose aren’t as plugged or noticeable. I didn’t really change anything else in my routine, so I wonder if it was increasing the AHA to daily use which made this happen. It’s weird that this has been my experience though, because BHA is supposed to me more effective at minimizing pores/SFs 🤷♀️
My skin tends to over-exfoliate pretty easily, so I can’t use AHA and BHA on the same day. Thinking about just sticking with daily AHA for the long haul - especially as I’ve noticed less trouble spots as well.
Will keep monitoring and let you all know how it goes, but just wanted to share as an FYI, if an case anyone here uses AHA or BHA products.

Exciting news - I placed a Jolse order to get shipped to the country where I live, and it’s my first time trying to order beauty products from overseas. When I order from Jokse, I normally have it shipped to my parents’ place in the USA, because there aren’t any import duties on that stuff in America (which I LOVE).
I really, really hope I don’t get hit with a ton of duties by sending the stuff to where I live - the customs people here are so unpredictable and unfair against foreigners when it comes to this thing, so let’s hope it arrives to me without issue! I just ordered a few things - Cosrx peptide eye cream and the IOPE #2 cushion blusher - so the total value was around $32.
🤞🤞🤞

My ulta order came in today. I mostly got hair stuff, but also got The Ordinary's squalane cleanser for when my bliss makeup melt runs out. I miss Bliss makeup melt...I would get so many grits out using that product.

I couldn’t properly wash my face this morning because my husband left a completely empty Cosrx cleanser tube in the shower. What a monster. I took the top off and couldn’t even squeeze a drop out. I swear I had a back up but I don’t, I guess that’s how fast we’re going through it now that he uses it. I have my Secret Key Lemon Peeling Gel and a couple random cleanser samples that will have to get me through until I get some more Cosrx.

I haven’t tried derma rolling, but I’ve always been interested based on the collagen production which results from it. beesquared has had a good experience - will let her chime in with more details! I also want to do dermaplaning, which also helps with smooth skin and allows for skincare products to absorb better, but...lazy.

Lakes My H loves the cosrx low ph face wash too! He says it doesn’t smell girly, which is why he always uses it when it’s in the shower. 😂

Very floral which is not for me. I love tea tree oil and ginseng and more earthy scents. And whatever scent combination makes up my Jeju:en Propolis Cream which is not a super sweet honey smell like some of the propolis sheet masks.

mirabelle, I haven’t done microneedling done professionally, but I have been derma rolling at home for the past 4-5 months. So far, I have seen steady improvements in my acne scaring and reduction of fine lines as a byproduct. I am only doing a small part of my face (along both temples) right now because wearing an n95 mask causes me small breakouts and you can’t roll over clogged skin. The last 2 times that I derma rolled, the deeper acne scars turned purple like fresh stretch marks as I was rolling and the areas seemed to fill in more. (The purple went away almost immediately) I use a .5mm roller about every 2 weeks. I don’t have many side effects. The area is red like a sunburn for 1-2 days and the skin is drier over all. I have to be really good at keeping it hydrated. I’d love to have it done by a derm because those results seem faster and at a deeper level, but I have really happy with what I have been able to achieve at home. The effect on the fine lines around my eyes was surprising, since I wasn’t looking to roll for wrinkles. The area will still wrinkle if I squint up my eyes (it’s not frozen like Botox) but the lines disappear at rest. I haven’t gotten too close to my eyes- staying on the outside edge of my eye socket.

Taitai and anyone else --- I am using the Jolse Vit C LAA serum currently. I keep it in the fridge at all times other than when I'm putting some on my face. I put it on after my acne rx medication and then follow it up with Cetaphil moisturizer. Even with the Cetaphil, I feel like my face is still...sticky... or something, after? Like its not moist feeling as it would be if it were just the moisturizer. Am I doing something wrong?

I remember getting more grits out with the Bliss makeup melt, but not a ton more than with CIZ. If you like CIZ and it’s working, I don’t think you’d see a huge difference if you used Bliss makeup melt instead. I love CIZ and wish I could get it out here!

The LAA serum can make your skin feel a bit tight or maybe tacky if you don’t use enough hydrating layers after it. That’s probably why your skin feels different with LAA + cetaphil, versus just with cetaphil. What I would suggest is getting a hydrating toner that you can put on after the LAA, and then put on the cetaphil. That would probably help make your skin feel more “normal” after using the LAA. Hope that makes sense!

Thank you Taitai! Is there something I should look for with "hydrating toner"? Is that literally what it is called?

Happy Valentine’s Day to meeeee. I bought the Sulwhasoo Bestsellers Trial Kit for myself since mh is clueless about my skincare preferences beyond stealing my face wash. I’ve had samples of all of these except the Gentle Cleansing Foam. So, so excited to have the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream again. I was in love with the smell. Also included is the First Care Activating Serum and Essential Balancing Water. I’m also obsessed with the inside of the shipping box, so pretty!

I’m going to follow up Taitai’s rec and say the whole Innisfree Green Tea line is good for keeping skin hydrated without being heavy. I use the eye cream and the serum daily all year long. The cream is nice in the winter for my skin, but DD1 has dry skin and she uses it at night year round.

Thanks for the recs! I am trying to only purchase cruelty free brands when possible so I might try the Klairs one. Looks like Earths Recipe is cruelty free too but it’s out of stock.
