We like this name, but we are not Irish or Scottish... does this name scream Irish/Scottish decent? Or am I overthinking this?

I love it.
The one Colin I know is Irish. But it’s a seriously great name and I don’t think it screams anything at all; I would see it as a perfectly nice & normal name on a little boy in North America (or anywhere), if that’s your concern.

You’re overthinking. It’s a great name.

Connor is our top choice and we are not Irish or Scottish. In fact our last name is extremely German 🤣.

I like Colin. Would you spell it that way or with two L's?

goldenbird we have a German LN too. The more common spelling that I’m seeing is with one L, but I’m not sure if we’d do one or two. It’s one of the few names we can actually agree on at this point.

Same with us and Connor. MH doesn't really like any other first name I bring up since I suggested Connor. It's my favorite, but I wanted one or two other choices lol.

It doesn't sound particularly Irish or Scottish. Collin, maybe, but not Colin.

My brother's name is Colin. We are Irish, but I've always loved his name. I've definitely known non-Irish Colins so I say go for it!!

It doesn't sound particularly Irish or Scottish. Collin, maybe, but not Colin. Actually, from here in Scotland, I would expect anyone who spelt it Collin to be American. I've never thought of Colin as a particularly Celtic name. It's a perfectly ordinary name that doesn't belong to any generation in particular. It's never been common but I wouldn't be surprised to meet a Colin of any age.
