Hey all I thought we could use a new random thread for this stressful time of year. Share your celebrations, rants, raves, family drama. Bring whatever youโve got!

I'm enjoying a day at home with my family while it is freezing raining outside. I'm looking forward to Christmas Day because we aren't going anywhere, no one is coming to our house, we will be in our matching pjs all day, and we are supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow. It feels like it should be the perfect Christmas Day.

I got out for the first time since C was born. Went to Target alone to get a few last gifts. DH is now out finishing his shopping. I was more organized then usual this year since the baby was coming. It's been quiet around here for a house with 4 kids. I'm looking forward to seeing other people this week.

Apparently we are having ILs over Xmas eve and making one of my frozen IP dinners. This is the second meal Iโve cooked for them since DS was born. They are backwards with this whole meal thing. They did give us some food the day we were discharged including a frozen steak....
Xmas day at home and Iโm making French toast casserole. Then going to ILs with the whole family. I hope I feel strong enough to baby wear to keep hands off DS.
Rants: at my dr appt he didnโt think the incision was infected but I need to keep gauze on it to wick the discharge away. When he was examining he was applying pressure and squeezing the incision, so Iโm sore, but itโs apparently also triggered more bleeding. Itโs like normal period flow for me again after no bleeding for 1.5 weeks. Iโm annoyed!

Also how many hrs would you say your NBs are sleeping a day. One thing I read said it should be 15-17 hrs, but the first 5 book from the hospital said as much as 20. We are really trying to get him to wake during the day, but he is a sleepy boy!

But, up until then it felt like 24/7 unless eating.

We are really trying to get him to wake during the day, but he is a sleepy boy! I was googling before because mine sleeps all the time. I know I shouldn't complain, my first screamed like 20 hours a day. He slept almost all day yesterday so I thought I was in for it last night but he only got up once. My 10 year old keeps asking if the baby is ok. He was born at 7 lbs 2oz, discharged at 6 lbs 9oz but at 8 days was at 7lbs 4oz. Doctor said since it's my 4th kid and he already passed his birth weight, we don't have to come back until 1 month. I'm breastfeeding so I wake him up when I'm about to explode.

Iโve got wine and pizza! Damn I missed wine! I got pregnant while DH and I were at a wedding at a vineyard. We brought home several nice bottles of wine that were suppose to be for our anniversary. I can't wait to drink them but I don't want to waste them on the small amount I can drink right now.

I still havenโt gotten into my 6 pack of summer shandy. My sister and BIL will be here Wednesday for a week (not staying with us) so Iโm sure Iโll need it then.
I think we are taking B to candle light service at church tomorrow for the first time. Our ped was against us taking him out around a lot of people early, but Iโm guessing it will be a light crowd since itโs sunday and H and I will be at the inlaws anyway. I really need to get my Lille fitted right so I can wear him.

By the time he was fed, double bath time started and since heโs been eating every 2 hrs all day, there wasnโt enough gap to drink. It will have to wait

For those who are BF, how long is the baby feeding for? E eats every 2-3 hours unless he's tired and wants to use me as a pacifier. But when he nurses he pretty much actively nurses for maybe 10 minutes and then sort of just hangs out on me for another 10-30 minutes. The last 10-30 minutes is usually soothing himself to sleep. I don't remember N being so quick before I'm wondering if I would try to keep E awake longer. I guess this is what happens when you have about four years between kids. You start to forget everything.

I would say ds actively eats on each side 8-10 mins and another 5 or so subtle sucking before I pop him off so heโs not just pacifying. I donโt think dd was that quick until older, but I think my stronger let down means he doesnโt have to work as hard for a full belly either.

Between 5 and 15 minutes, RARELY 20, and only on one side. She likes to snuggle next to the nipple for a few minutes also, but won't be latched - she just wants her cheek on me. My let down is ridiculous though. I pumped Friday afternoon after the movie to make up for the bottle D got and not eating that side. I used the hand pump for maybe 5 min in the car and had 5 oz. From weighted feeds at nursing meet-ups, she seems to routinely take in about 2.5-3 oz in the time she's nursing.

Maybe he's just more efficient than N was?? He's still having an issue with green poop and I have been wondering if maybe he's been getting too much foremilk. Like maybe he's not nursing enough to get more himdmilk. The green poop didn't start until the doctor told us it was ok to let him go up to 3 hours between feedings during the day and 4-5 hours at night. He's pretty happy though and it's obvious he's growing. The going to call our doctor on Tuesday and see if she thinks he needs to be seen again. I can't imagine only pumping for 5 minutes and getting 5 oz of milk. That's crazy.

Well guys I made it. We traveled 11 hours on Thursday and 9.5 hours today with an 18 month old and almost 4 week old. So looking forward to my bed in T-minus 30.
For BF, R usually takes between 8-15 minutes and on one side only. Pretty consistent with my 3 kids. She had some issues gaining at first but started doing better. She eats at least 2-3 during the day and 3-4 at night. With the exception of the left couple of days when we were all in the same room and didn't want to wake the toddler. R gave me a 5-6 hour stretch at night then resumed every 2-3 after the initial one.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like E is nursing pretty much the same as others his age. I guess I'm just not used to such an efficient eater. You are one brave woman jenn83. I can't even imagine traveling that long with just N, never mind a newborn. Merry Christmas ladies!!! ๐๐๐๐
